The Strand Tensionmeter (70046), also known as the Strand Dynamometer, is a powerful tool used to measure the tension of existing strand between telephone poles. The tool is furnished with an analog thermometer, temperature compensation charts, detailed instructions for use, and a hard shell plastic carrying case cushioned with foam rubber for protection.
The Strand Tensionmeter is a precision instrument which can quickly measure tensions of 1/4 inches (6.6M), 5/16 in. (6M), 3/8 in. (10M), or 7/16 in. (16m) strand. It can be used on strands with up to 10,000 lbs of tension. One of the main features is that it’s a completely mechanical system — so you don’t have to worry about replacing dead batteries.
The Strand Tensionmeter helps assure that you are always in complicance with the National Electric Safety Code’s Uniform System of Clearances even considering the temperatures affecting the strand on hot or cold days. Wes Wolfert of Wolfert Consulting, LLC, (Former Bell/Verizon Construction Staff) states “It is considered essential for Communication System Owners to meet the recognized industry standards (Section 4.4 of Telcordia SR – 1421) by maintaining steel strand support members that support load and clearance with the same regard given to pole class design section per ANSI 05.1. In order to meet the tension standards, tensioning is only verified with the use of an approved tensioning tool such as the GMP Strand Tensionmeter (70046).”
The Strand Tensionmeter needs to be recalibrated on a regular basis, which we handle here at the factory. So contact our customer service team for information on our calibration services.
