GMP’s CR Collapsible Power Reel (08136) has been a reliable tool to rapidly string wire or small diameter cable since the 1920s. It’s ideal for placing or removing aerial cable, taking down wire, or pulling winch line into conduits. It can also be used for pulling fiber optic cable as well.

The reel mounts on the end of any 2 7/16 IN (62mm) winch drum extension shaft, with a bayonet or pin. The CR Power Reel has a capacity of 1,600 ft. of 1/4 IN (490m of 6mm) wire rope with a maximum allowable pull of 3500 lbs. Bare Drum (1600kgs).

The CR Power Reel can also be used to as a pulling capstan for poly rope or tape, but not as a storage device. It’s important to keep the number of wraps to a strict maximum of three wraps. If too much synthetic material is stored on the reel, it will have so much compressive force it will break the CR Power Reel links and void the warranty.

Simply giving a half turn of the locking mechanism will collapse all six movable segments of the reel, allowing you to quickly remove over a thousand feet of wire without having to worry about the tedious process of unwinding the coils. Instead, you can take all of it off in one fell swoop.

The reel is predominantly made of heat treated aluminum with a durable yellow finish. The handle has been beefed up due to field feedback from technicians. Overall, it’s a dependable and reliable tool that’s stood the test of time for more than 90 years, continuing to help telecom technicians rapidly string cable to this day.
