GMP’s Manhole Guard Rail is an essential safety tool to protect your field crew during any manhole operation. This high-quality guard folds into a compact 2 1/2 in. (64mm) x 33 1/4 in. (844mm) rectangle, yet opens easily into a large 32 in. (813mm) wide by 32 in. (813mm) deep x 42 in. (1070mm) high cube. Each guard has a bright yellow enamel finish and has two D rings welded to the frame for attaching GMP’s Splicer’s Combination Tent (70229).
The GMP Manhole Shield is another essential tool that helps prevent ground water, debris, or tools from falling on a technician working in a manhole. This 12 in. high shield is made of lightweight aluminum and has a pneumatic seal that keeps ground water from flowing into the open manhole. Just inflate the tube with 5-10 lbs. of air or nitrogen to form a watertight seal. No clamps or sealing compounds required.
The Manhole Shield (reversible 27 in. & 30 in.) fits most communications manhole openings. Also included is one high quality, puncture resistant inflatable sealing tube to keep surface water and mud out of the manhole vault. The tube can be removed and placed on either end of the shield depending on the manhole vault being sealed.
GMP’s Manhole Cover Hook simplifies the removal and replacement of typical telephone manhole covers while decreasing the strain on the user. The long handle provides useful leverage when removing and replacing manhole covers so that you don’t have to worry about bending down and potentially hurting your back.
Each tool is made of an all-steel handle, sleeve, shank, foot and heat-treated alloy steel hook. Zinc-plating is then applied to fight rust and rubber grips are placed on both handle and foot to prevent slippage.
Utility Manhole Cover Lifter (70151)
The Utility Manhole Cover Lifter is an incredibly versatile tool, built for the individual faced with a wide variety of covers in their work environment. The Utility Cover Lifter is compatible with all of the popular hook sizes (Large J Hook — P/N 25112, Medium L Hook — P/N 25111, and Small J Hook — P/N 25110), all of which you can purchase from GMP.
The plated steel tubular body has been made thicker for the typically heavier electric utility manhole covers. The built-in mechanical advantage allows you to remove even the most stubborn cover, while letting the lifter do the work, not your back. A spiked foot is incorporated into the design for improved traction on ground, sand, ice, snow, or other loose surfaces.
Gas Engine (70132) and AC Electric (70133) Ventilation Blowers
Equipped with a 4 cycle, 3 horsepower Briggs & Stratton gasoline engine, the Gas Engine Blowers offer the versatility of either supplying continuous fresh air or providing ventilation to manholes and other confined areas without relying on an electric power source. Air flow is measured at 1350 CFM at the nozzle, 1050 CFM with one 90° bend or 775 CFM with two 90° bends.
The AC Electric Blower is especially designed for maximized air ventilation in non-explosive and nonflammable confined space work environments by supplying continuous fresh air while removing toxic and noxious fumes from the area, reliably serving the needs of construction crews as well as workers in utility trenches, vaults or tanks. Air flow is measured at 1250 CFM at the nozzle; 805 CFM with two 90° bends.
Each unit’s frame and housing are constructed from heavy gauge sheet metal, providing exceptional durability and resistance to damage. You can also purchase the optional Self Storing HD Hose (70347) or the Heavy Duty Blower Hose with Carrier (87143).
The GMP Submersible Pump is ideal for dewatering construction sites, or for all-around use in industrial plants and utilities. They have a slim-line design, enabling the operator to easily fit them into casings as small as 8 in. (203mm) in diameter. Top discharge also provides maximum motor cooling for continuous duty applications.

Manhole Platform Supports (70363)
If you don’t want to be down in the mud when working with a manhole, use two or more of these handy tools with planking to form a temporary platform in a manhole or cable vault. The connectors will expand across the manhole, and you can simply layer pieces of wood on top of them to build the temporary support platform.
