At General Machine Products we have some outstanding employees, and we are very excited to proudly highlight some of our brightest and most committed staff in our monthly Employee Spotlight. December’s Employee Spotlight features our Kevin Delaney, our Director of Engineering.

1. What drew you to GMP originally? And how long have you worked at GMP?

I was first drawn to GMP for a number of reasons.  I was employed in division of a Fortune 50 company and my design role was very compartmentalized.  The GMP position provided the prospects of utilizing my creative design abilities, my hands on experience, and my “can do” attitude in developing new products.  The position also offered the chance to use my management skills to lead a team.  All in all it was the right position for me.

I’ve been with GMP for almost 30 years.

2. What is your favorite part about working at GMP? What has been your favorite project so far?

I don’t have one favorite part of working at GMP, but I enjoy working with the various GMP employees.  I’m on a number of teams at GMP and I enjoy the interaction with the various team members.  The team members are office staff, as well as team members from the Production and Assembly floor.  I especially enjoy talking with our customers who use our products, day in and day out.  I’m also lucky enough to get a chance to meet some of our customers on field demonstrations and field tests.  I also enjoy speaking with our industry contacts with cable manufacturers and duct manufacturers about trends in our industry and new applications that will require creative GMP Engineering Solutions.

I don’t have a favorite project, per se, but some of the most interesting projects have been the development of cable lashers, cable pulling winches, cable pulling equipment and cable blowing machines and their accessories.  I enjoy the design process at GMP since it is a smaller company.  I’m involved  with the design, as well as the prototyping of the new design.  Once the prototype is complete, I’m also involved with the testing at GMP.  I’m also typically involved with user testing of our products as well.  I’ll also involved with the Production team when they manufacture and subsequently assemble the parts.

3. What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I’ve been on Santa’s Toy Design and Engineering team slightly longer than I’ve been at GMP.  My North Pole ID picture is at the top of this Spotlight!
