In the past, there hasn’t been a good way to easily remove and replace handhole covers. You had to kneel down and crawl around to remove the screws with a ratchet wrench. Then you had to use a completely separate tool to pull the lid off to gain access. When you were done, you had to bend down again to re-install the lid and tighten the screws. With the Ergohook, you can stand fully upright and use only one tool during the entire operation.
The Ergohook is 68.75” long and weighs 7.7 lbs. The socket on one end of the Ergohook is sized for 5 point 13/16” screw head on the cover screws. You don’t even need a ratchet wrench to get the box open. Just rotate the shaft of the hook with the comfortable hand crank to loosen the screws and set them aside without bending down. The socket has a magnet inside so that steel screws will be retained in the socket.
Once you have removed the screws, you have to remove the handhole lid from the handhole. Simply turn the tool around, and hook onto the steel pin in the handhole to lift the lid free from the handhole frame. Once you’re finished, simply lift it back into place, and tighten the screws.
The Ergohook is painted yellow to help prevent corrosion and for high visibility, and is fabricated from a durable carbon steel. It takes the cumbersome bending and strain out of an operation that should (and can be) simple.
